Newsletter 32
Read about the Bartholin stock facility, problems and solutions with freezers, economy etc.

Dear all
Here follows a slightly delayed newsletter. Please remember the coming Department meeting on 14 November at 9-10 in the Bartholin auditorium.
The Bartholin Stock Facility
As many of you will know the main stockroom in the Bartholin building is supplied with many common office and laboratory utensils. The store is open between 11.30 and 12.00 and 13.00-13.30. Employees are encouraged to visit the store to see the assortment of supplies. Ole Frandsen, main responsible of the Bartholin stock, can be contacted by phone: 2899 2540 or email of@microbiology.au.dk. The stock is in many cases capable of delivering ordered goods at the respective address. Other (external) suppliers can also be contacted with delivery to your local address.
Alarms on refrigerators and freezers
There have been several breakdowns of freezers and refrigerators lately due to errors in appliances, turned off relays, or failure to close the doors properly. The Department therefore urge you to take the necessary measures to ensure materials etc. and consider installing alarms. The Department has already installed receivers to the log2web system in several locations and would like to help further. Sensors for the appliances and subscription to the service, as desired, must be financed by the individual user. The alarms will alert the user directly. For further information and help, please contact Viggo Nielsen. It is pointed out that the Department is not responsible for damaged contents of freezers/refrigerators .
Orders for repairs of common appliances
Ordering of external repairers, paid by the Department, must be handled by the biomedical workmen to ensure optimal use of the Department’s own resources. If you personally contact an external company the general rule is that the orderer pays the bill, even if the appliance repaired is common equipment.
Turn of the year is approaching and the deadline for using appropriated money on “Delregnskab 1” including annuum is approaching
Orders to be financed by either your “annuum” or other 2013 funds should be placed now. Only in exceptional circumstances a non-consumed amount from 2013 can be made available in 2014, due to the fact that the Department can not transfer Department-funds between years. Remember also to use research grants limited to 2013.
Request for unpaid practice period from MSc in biology-biotechnology
The Department has been contacted regarding the possibility of an 8-week practice period for an MSc in biology-biotechnology. The applicant is somewhat physically handicapped and wishes to be challenged during a practice period with us on part-time. Please contact Thomas Corydon if you can offer a practice period.
Good ideas at the Department
Aarhus University research foundation has awarded funds for pilot centers and project support (AU IDEAS programme). The Department has done well once again (we received 4 out of the 32 funds awarded to the entire university). The following biomedical researchers were among the receivers:
Pilot Center:
- Marina Romero - Ramos : The Neuroimmunological process in Parkinson 's Disease : Centre for Neuro Generative Inflammation Prevention ( NEURODIN ) .
Project support:
- Mette Madsen : Megalin - targeted inhibition of malignant melanoma cell proliferation
- Rikke Nielsen: Laptm5 - a new immune modulator in the proximal tubule during chronic kidney disease?
- Steffen Thiel : Immunological regulator of developmental processes
Congratulations to the recipients.
