What do people see when they google your name?

Hopefully an updated Pure profile, since that is one of the first things that comes up in an inter-net search. If you still haven’t uploaded a portrait photo and relevant text, here are the tools to get it done before the autumn semester really begins.

Six good Pure profiles

If you need inspiration or want to see good examples of completed Pure profiles, have a look at:

Since 2024, it has been mandatory for all employees – academic as well as administrative – to complete the fields job responsibilities, profile text, and, if relevant, sideline employment in Pure.

And it makes sense, because Pure profiles are well search engine optimized and therefore among the very first results when someone googles the name of an AU employee. Foundations and external partners do this regularly.

Try googling your own name and see what comes up.

“As a researcher, you cannot afford an outdated Pure profile.”

It is important that we present ourselves adequately and professionally.

Professor Morten Schmidt from the Department of Clinical Medicine has no doubt about that. He is one of those who prioritise keeping an updated Pure profile:

“I want to be visible to colleagues, collaborators, foundations, and students. An updated profile makes it easier to establish contact across disciplines and institutions. I see Pure as an important way to present my work in a consolidated and updated manner, so others can quickly get an overview of my research areas, publications, and projects.”

Morten Schmidt has secured major grants for his field of research and has received several research awards, including the Jorck Foundation Research Prize and the Skou Prize.

“An updated Pure profile supports applications, communication, and visibility. As a researcher, you quite simply cannot afford to leave it outdated,” he says.

Free employee photography every month

If you need a new profile picture, Aarhus University’s photographers regularly offer employee photo sessions. The next ones are Wednesday, 3 September, and Wednesday, 1 October 2025.

The sessions take place in building 1910, room 320 at Trøjborgvej near Campus. They are free of charge but require registration. More information is available on the staff website.

Writing help for the mandatory Pure texts

If you find it difficult to get started writing text for the mandatory fields “job responsibilities” and “profile”, help is available on the faculty website.

Here you will find a "fill in the blanks" template, where you can complete the [EMPTY SPACES] in predefined texts and, with only a few adjustments, make the text your own.

Remember, it should be short and precise.

The website also contains a graphic quick guide on how to edit your Pure profile.

Something wrong?

If you have done your best and your Pure profile still doesn’t look quite right, AU’s Pure Support is ready to help you finalize it.

Nearly 1,000 employees updated their Pure profile this spring – did you?

In the spring semester, the faculty rolled out a Pure campaign – Pure Profile Completion Week – across all five departments and the administration centre. Through local and intensive efforts with extensive Pure support, the goal was to update Pure profiles with profile pictures and texts:

  • Before the campaign, 21 people (corresponding top 0.7% of Health employees) had completed the AU-mandatory text fields (profile and job responsibilities) in their Pure profile.
  • After the campaign, in June 2025, 725 people (or nearly 23% of Health employees) had texts in the mandatory fields. That is 30 times more completed profiles than before the campaign.
  • Some employees prioritised text in other or additional fields beyond the mandatory ones. Before the campaign this was 6% of employees – after the campaign it was 35%, corresponding to 1,123 employees. That is an increase of 480%.
  • During the campaign period, 502 employees had a new portrait photo taken for their Pure profile.

In 2026, Health will launch new initiatives at the departments to ensure relevant and updated Pure profiles.

But if you still need to make your Pure profile complete and presentable, there is no reason to wait – your profile is already visible to foundations, collaborators, and others with an interest in your professional work.
