International top researcher receives DKK 50 million to establish lab at Health

Professor Fulvio Reggiori receives a Laureate Grant from the Novo Nordisk Foundation to start his own research laboratory at the Department of Biomedicine. His goal is to answer important questions within autophagy to fight diseases such as cancer and neurodegenerative conditions as Parkinson's and Huntington's disease.

The internationally recognised biomedical researcher Fulvio Reggiori brings his expertise in autophagy, which is the process by which cells degrade and reuse their components, to Denmark when he begins a fellowship at AIAS on 1 June 2022. He will at the same time establish his new research laboratory, the Reggiori Lab, at the Department of Biomedicine.

Fulvio Reggiori and his research team will strengthen autophagy research in three areas in particular: mechanism and regulation, infection and immunity, and neurodegeneration. Among the ways in which they will achieve this is the use of ground-breaking cell biological, biochemical and molecular biological approaches and collaboration with Fulvio Reggiori's extensive international networks.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation's Laureate Research Grant is an adjustable grant that covers project operations, salaries and research equipment over a seven year period.
