Byggeprojekterne
Den første runde af byggemøder mellem byggerådgiverne og os som brugere er nu færdige, og rådgiverne er ved lægge sidste hånd på et dispositionsforslag, som de skal aflevere til bygherren (BYGST) den 14. november. Forslaget vil efterfølgende blive lagt på nettet med mulighed for kommentering. Den anden og mere detaljerede planlægningsfase, som omhandler udarbejdelse af et projektforslag, skal foregå i perioden november 2012 - februar 2013. Den overordnede plan er stadig, at byggeprojekterne skal være afsluttede i 2016. Rådgiverne har – helt rimeligt - rost brugergrupperne for det store engagement.

Kommunikation fra byggeprocessen
Vi vil gøre en ekstra indsats for at kommunikere fra de mange byggemøder der afholdes. Vi vil bl.a. udnytte instituttets hjemmeside til formålet. Fra instituttet er det Inger Merete Paulsen og Zitta Nygaard, der står for dette projekt. Områder af særlig interesse vil blive afdækket via interviews med rådgivningsgruppen og formændene fra de 6 byggegrupper. På hjemmesiden vil man kunne stille spørgsmål. Spørgsmål og svar af generel interesse vil blive lagt på FAQ-siden.

Lokale møder
Vi er i gang med de lokale møder på instituttet, der blev beskrevet i sidste nyhedsbrev. Der har indtil nu været afholdt VIP møder på biokemi, tidl. IMMI og anatomi. Dagsorden for møderne har været: 1. News from the head of the department and discussion on this. 2. News regarding research – new initiatives (projects, collaborations) or results (published articles etc.). 3. Teaching - news from the members of the local and the joint teaching committee. 4. Staffing issues/news (VIP) 5. Daily operations (buildings, equipment, TAP-staff etc). 6. Suggested topics. 7. Misc.

Kursus for instituttets samarbejdsudvalg
Instituttets samarbejdsudvalg var samlet en hel dag på kursusstedet Koldkærgård den 25. september. Kurset omhandlede samarbejdsudvalgets opgaver. Stemningen var god, og man fik godt udbytte af kurset. Der vil fremadrettet være behov for at få afklaret de præcise afgræsninger mellem samarbejdsudvalget og institutforum. Til orientering er medlemmerne af SU: Bettina Grumsen, Bertha Beck, Anne Marie Bundsgaard, Claus Bülow, Anne Flensborg, Zitta Nygaard, Helle Christiansen, Helle Damkier, Steffen Junker, Peter Holm-Nielsen, Morten Nielsen, Thomas Corydon, Per Höllsberg, Ole Bækgaard og undertegnede.

Møde med fakultetets advisory board
Fakultetets advisory board var på besøg 13-14. september for at rådgive om fakultetets og institutternes strategi. Programmet inkluderede et besøg på Skejby. De første udmeldinger var positive, og på sigt vil panelet kunne gå dybere ind i vor arbejde (planen er at de kommer på besøg en gang om året). Sammensætningen af advisory board.

Institutmøderne
Institutmøderne næste år planlægges afholdt 8.30-9.30, og vi overvejer at droppe de videnskabelige foredrag og i stedet præsentere nye videnskabelige medarbejdere. Nye VIP vil blive inviteret til at give et kort rids af deres CV og forskningsinteresser.

Undervisning
Studienævnet for medicin har udsendt brev om ”Standard for antal undervisningstimer på bacheloruddannelsen”, hvoraf bl.a. fremgår, at det maksimale antal undervisningstimer per studerende per uge må være 15 (i gennemsnit henover et semester). Brevet er videresendt til instituttets og fagenes undervisningsudvalg til kommentering.

Reservation af mødelokaler
Fra mandag d. 15. oktober skal reservation af mødelokaler på Biomedicin foretages gennem den elektroniske kalender, og ikke længere i papirkalendere på sekretariaterne.

Adresser til Biomedicin og nye EAN numre
Som tidligere meddelt har Institut for Biomedicin fået et nyt EAN-nummer, der gælder for samtlige enheder. Der er koblet fire adresser på det nye EAN-nummer, som med fordel kan anvendes ved bestilling af varer og som returadresser på breve og pakker. Anvendelse af de fire adresser (Afdeling Øst, Vest, Syd og Sekretariat) vil sikre en hurtig og sikker levering af post og pakker til instituttet.

Mobilitetsstipendier
AU har modtaget et stort legat fra Novozymes og Henning Holck-Larsens Fond til uddeling af rejsestipendier på området ’bioteknologi’. Legatet skal bruges til gensidig mobilitet på ph.d.- og post-doc-/forsker-niveau mellem AU og fire udvalgte indiske universiteter: Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), Indian Institute of Technology (Chennai/Madras), Delhi University, og TERI University (Delhi). Legatet er på 600.000 kr. i 7 år, dvs. i alt 4,2 mio. kr., og giver mulighed for, at ca. seks forskere årligt kan rejse fra Aarhus til Indien, og omvendt kan seks indere komme til AU. Der er løbende ansøgningsfrist. Åbning af nyt forskningscenter
Det nye forskningscenter, MEMBRANES, holder indvielsesseminar den 24. oktober kl. 12.30. Alle er velkomne. Mere information.

Ny centerhjemmeside
Det ny forskningscenter i innat immunologi (ledet af Søren Paludan) har fået en hjemmeside.

Building Projects
The first round of construction meetings between the construction consultants (architects and engineers) and the users of the Department of Biomedicine are now complete, and the consultants are finalizing an outline proposal to be submitted to the building owners (BYGST) by 14 November. The proposal will be published on the web with the option of commenting. The second and more detailed planning phase, which deals with the preparation of a project proposal, will take place during the period of November 2012 till February 2013. The overall plan is still to complete the building projects in 2016. The advisors have - quite reasonably – commended the user groups for their commitment.

Communications During the Construction Process
We will make an extra effort to communicate from the many construction meetings being held. The communications will be forwarded via the Department’s website. Areas and topics of particular interest will be covered through interviews with the Advisory Group and Chairmen of the 6 building groups. The website includes a question and answer feature. All questions will be answered, questions of general interest will be published and answered on the FAQ page. Inger Merete Paulsen and Zitta Nygaard from the Department are in charge of this project.

Local Meetings
Local meetings are now being held at the Department, as described in the last newsletter. So far, VIP meetings have been held at biochemistry, the former IMMI and anatomy. The agendas of the meetings were: 1. News from the Head of the Department and discussion on this; 2. News on research - new initiatives (projects, collaborations) or results (published articles, etc.); 3. Teaching - news from the members of the local and the joint teaching committee; 4. Staffing issues / news (VIP); 5. Daily operations (buildings, equipment, TAP staff etc.); 6. Suggested topics, 7. Misc.

Course for the Department’s Cooperation Committee (SU)
The biomedical Cooperation Committee (SU) gathered a whole day at the Koldkærgård Conference Centre on 25 September. The course dealt with the task of a cooperation committee. The atmosphere was good and of benefit to the participants. A clear demarcation between the Cooperation Committee and the Department Forum is necessary in the future. For your information, the members of the Cooperation Committee are: Bettina Grumsen, Bertha Beck, Anne Marie Bundgaard, Claus Bülow, Anne Flensborg, Zitta Nygaard, Helle Christiansen, Helle Damkier, Steffen Junker, Peter Holm-Nielsen, Morten Nielsen, Thomas Corydon, Per Höllsberg, Ole Bækgaard and myself.

Meeting with the Advisory Board of the Faculty
The Faculty Advisory Board visited AU 13-14 September to give advice as to the strategy of the Faculty and the departments. Their programme included a visit to Skejby. Their first feedback was positive, and in the long term the panel will be able to go deeper into our work (the plan is a yearly visit). The constitution of the advisory board.

Department Meetings
Next year’s Department meetings are planned for 8.30 to 9.30, and we are considering to stop the scientific lectures and instead making an introduction of new academic employees. New VIP will be asked to give a brief outline of their CV and research interests.

Teaching
The Board of Medical Studies has issued a letter on "The default number of teaching at the Bachelor’s Degree Programme", which shows that the maximum number of weekly lessons per student must not exceed 15 (on average over a semester). The letter was forwarded to the teaching committees of the Department for comments.

Reservation of Meeting rooms
From Monday 15 October, booking of meeting rooms  from the Department of Biomedicine are made via the electronic calendar. Reservations via the paper calendars in the secretariats will no longer be possible.

Addresses for Biomedicine and New EAN Numbers
As previously announced, the Department of Biomedicine got a new EAN number, which applies to all units. Four addresses are coupled to the new EAN number, which can be advantageously used for ordering goods and return addresses on letters and parcels. Use of the four addresses (sections East, West, South and the Secretariat) will ensure a quick and safe delivery of mail and parcels to the Department.

Mobility Grants
AU has received a large grant from Novozymes and the Henning Holck-Larsen Foundation for distribution of fellowships in 'biotechnology'. The grant is to be used for mutual mobility at the PhD and postdoc/research levels between Aarhus University and four selected Indian universities: The Indian Institute of Science (Bangalore), The Indian Institute of Technology (Chennai / Madras), Delhi University, and TERI University (Delhi). The grant is DKK 600.000 for 7 years, i.e. a total of 4.2 million Dkr. The grant makes it possible each year for approximately six researchers to travel from Aarhus to India, and conversely, six Indians can come to AU. Calls for applications (deadlines) are sent out on a regular basis. The new MEMBRANES research centre invites all interested to inauguration seminar on 24 October, 12.30. More information.

New Centre website
The new research centre of innate immunology (headed by Søren Paludan) has launched their new website.
