Nyhedsbrev nr. 19/Newsletter 19

Hermed opdatering:/Dear All - Hope you had a good summer. Here's an update:

Lønforhandlinger for TAP i efteråret

Hendes email: marjenni@rm.dk

Economy
We have now received the Department’s financial statements for the second quarter of this year, and the economy is unfortunately still pressed. The overall result for the first 6 months of the year shows a deficit of approximately Dkr. 3.5 million. We therefore need, as previously announced, to reduce annuum for the second half year. There will be separate mails to the involved VIPs as soon as possible. Furthermore, we have to be generally very cautious until the expences are adapted at a lower level.

The Building and Renovation Processes
Over the summer 3 meetings were held in a building group consisting of representatives from the Cubo architects and related consulting engineers, The Construction & Developer Authority, Lars Mitens and Jan Oehlenschläger (from AU Finance and Planning), Connor Leerhøy (SUN building service ) and myself (and as my substitute Poul Henning Jensen). The meetings have so far mainly dealt with time schedules and the potential for an underground parking garage at the new building. To help with advice in the process, the 6 building groups that participated in the design of the competition programme will be revived. Head of the construction groups (m/w): Frederik Dagnæs-Hansen, Morten Nielsen, Helle Prætorius, Søren Paludan, Thomas Holm Pedersen, Marianne Hokland. Poul Henning Jensen and Anders Børglum from the Department will continue as overall building consultants.

Elections to the Department Forum
In order not to spend resources on devising electoral processes in each department the Faculty will prepare an election circular which will subsequently be distributed for consultation to a wide group of interested parties. As a consequence, the elections will be held later this year.

The New Activity-based Economy Model
The time schedule has been changed, and the full activity-based model is not expected to be fully implemented until 2014-2015. The model principle is still transparency and the departments as the economical units. There will, however, already in autumn this year be some system changes. In the fall, there will be a clarification of distribution keys, the involvement of the departments in the process, and more.

Salary Negotiations for TAP in the Fall
The Department has received a time plan for the autumn negotiations, which means that negotiations must take place between 24 September and 9 November 2012. Before negotiations, specific purposes and priorities must be discussed in the cooperation committees (SU). Therefore, we have convened an extraordinary meeting of the cooperation committee at the 11th of September. All TAP colleagues will soon receive a mail about the procedures. Deadline for application will be September 13th.

Strategy Action Plans
Faculty Management and Secretariat leadership attended a one-day seminar on 3 July to schedule the follow-up of the Faculty’s and departments’ strategy plans. The departments have subsequently been commissioned for the next six months on the basis of our strategy cards to prepare specific descriptions of initiatives/projects with indication of timing, resource requirements, etc., which we/the management team have started doing. We hope to get extraordinary resources in 2013 to help launch new initiatives.

New Research Center
Several researchers from Biomedicine are involved in an Aarhus University Research Foundation funded pilot center. The ‘Center for Interactions of Proteins in Epithelial Transport (InterPrET)‘ officially started in June and was funded over a 5-year period. The center aims to develop techniques for studying physiological protein interactions on both a small and large scale. The center involves researchers from Biomedicine, Health (Robert Fenton, Jeppe Prætorius, Søren Moestrup, Trairak Pisitkun) and Science and Technology (Jan Enghild, Carsten Wiuf). More information on the center can be found at: www.interpret.au.dk

Assistance from the Research Support Unit
Marianne Jensby, who spoke at the last Department meeting, works as a fundraiser/consultant at the Research Support Unit and is our Department contact. She offers - free of charge - to help the departmental VIPs to identify suitable - large and small - funds, and she can help with revising and modifications of applications. Many of you may know her already since she used to work in Søren Moestrup’s group as a postdoc. Her email: marjenni@rm.dk
